The Neckar Bridge connects the Mannheim district of Seckenheim over the Neckar with the community of Ilvesheim . It belongs to the state road 542 (L 542) in Baden-Württemberg .
history
In the 1920s, the Neckar began to be canalized . In this context, the level of the old arm of the Neckar sank continuously, which meant that the ferry service that had existed until then could no longer be guaranteed. Therefore, on February 1, 1926, a competition was announced to connect the then still independent community of Seckenheim (incorporated in 1930) with the community of Ilvesheim by a bridge . Almost half of the construction costs were borne by a contractual obligation by Neckar-Aktiengesellschaft (now an 82% subsidiary of EnBW ), which financed the canal. It was opened to traffic as early as 1927. Like the other Neckar bridges in Mannheim, it was blown up by the Wehrmacht shortly before the end of the Second World War in 1945 . 1952 to 1953 the two arches were reinserted on the Seckenheim side.
description
The tied arch bridge ( Langerscher Barken ) with a height of six meters and a width of 14.5 m leads over the natural, old Neckar. The three arched structures, each with a span of 53.8 m, are connected to each other in the apex area with six crossbars each. The arched ribs with a center distance of 9.4 m have a height of 1.52 m and 0.9 m width. The lane board is suspended at a distance of 4.5 m. Outside the arches there are cantilevered lanes for pedestrians and cyclists.
Others
At the end of the 19th century, a Neckar bridge was planned a few kilometers up the Neckar. This should connect Ladenburg with Neckarhausen in addition to the existing, combined railway and pedestrian bridge . There were repeated plans and measurements - the bridge is also always a political issue - but so far there have been no serious plans for implementation. The next car bridge up the Neckar is - apart from the Neckar crossing of the A5 autobahn and the ferry between Neckarhausen and Ladenburg - the Ernst-Walz-Brücke in Heidelberg .
