Ron Raphael Braunstein (born June 7, 1976 in Brooklyn , New York City ), better known as Necro , is an American rapper and producer.

Career

Ron Braunstein is known for his morbid texts, in which death is often addressed in its omnipresent form. He is therefore also considered the inventor of " Death Rap ", a style of its own that combines rap with elements of Death Metal . The artist with the name Necro, which is derived from a song by the band Slayer , also works regularly with musicians from this scene (including Sean Martin & Jamey Jasta ( Hatebreed ), Igor Cavalera ( Sepultura ) and Scott Ian ( Anthrax )).

Necros beats are dark and always very elementary. Mostly they only consist of a drum set and a sample; the songs often do without an additional sound element to emphasize the chorus. Necro often sampled electric guitars and saxophones, which was an unusual crossing of boundaries, especially at the beginning of his career (at that time, hip-hop was still particularly keen to distinguish it from other musical styles).

Necro's musical career began as a guitarist with the death metal band Injustice, which he founded in 1986 with his older brother Ill Bill . Since the group did not get a record deal despite efforts, he turned to rap. Necro first gained attention when he won a demo contest on a radio show in 1991. In the years that followed he gained experience in the New York rap scene and was often to be found at underground rap events. For example, he was whistled by the mostly black audience at an open mic performance in New York because he was on stage with a Charles Manson T-shirt. Manson, other sociopaths and their crimes can also be found in the artist's texts. Also deceased celebrities and the respective way of death of the person are mentioned in the morbid lyrics of the musician, some of which also contain a humorous, macabre contrast. In 2000, Necro released his first album, I Need Drugs . He also occurs under the pseudonyms The Sexorcist or Necrodamus.

Since 2013 Necro has formed the duo The Godfathers together with Kool G Rap . Her debut album Once Upon A Crime was also released in 2013.

Necro has also appeared as an actor in film and television since 2009. In 2017 he played in Good Time .

Arrest in Switzerland and temporary ban on entry into the Schengen area

On November 27, 2015, Necro attacked six members of the Swiss rap group IBS , which appeared as the opening act, at a performance in a nightclub in the Swiss city of Zurich, together with his security guard and his musical companion Mr. Hyde , and seriously injured them. According to Necro, the reason for the altercation was a conflict that arose between the group and his security guard after he pushed one of the members in a mosh pit. Necro was arrested in the backstage of the nightclub shortly after the argument and spent four days in solitary confinement in the local prison. After his release from solitary confinement Necro was in a fast-track procedure sentenced to a prison term of six months, and against him was a three-year entry ban, which the entire Schengen area covering imposed. The entry ban was lifted a year earlier, and Necro has been able to re-enter the European Schengen area since November 2017.
