Nedim Gürsel (* 1951 in Gaziantep ) is a Turkish writer. He is a French citizen .

Gürsel made his first publications in literary magazines in 1969. After graduating from the Galatasaray elite high school in Istanbul in 1970, he graduated from the Sorbonne in Paris , where he studied modern French literature and received his doctorate with a thesis on Louis Aragon and Nazim Hikmet . Today he teaches Turkish literature there . Gürsel is the chairman for Turkish literary research at the CNRS . His books have so far been translated into 12 languages, including German. Von Gürsel has published articles in Milliyet , Cumhuriyet and Le Monde .

According to the Berlin International Literature Festival, Gürsel, along with Orhan Pamuk and Yaşar Kemal, is one of the most renowned Turkish authors.

The Turkish judiciary carried out criminal proceedings against Gürsel for “denigrating the religious values ​​of the people”. Gürsel insulted Islam through passages in his book "Allah's Daughters". Gürsel commented on the allegations as follows: "I am convinced that I have not offended religion. (....) I have the right to criticize religion". On June 25, 2009, the trial court acquitted him.

In spring 2019, Gürsel held the Friedrich Dürrenmatt visiting professorship for world literature at the University of Bern .
