Neferusi Nfrwsj |
Neferusi is the ancient Egyptian name of an ancient Egyptian city and a region in the 16th Upper Egyptian antelope gau Ma-hedj ( governorate al-Minya ). The exact location of the place in the region between Hebenu and Chemenu is disputed.
Neferusi is mentioned for the first time in a tomb near Hebenu of the Old Kingdom , where a Hathor , mistress of Neferusi is also mentioned. In the Middle Kingdom the place is mentioned several times in the graves of Beni Hassan , where the Hathor, mistress of Neferusi , is also mentioned. Hetepet, wife of Prince Amenemhet, was a priestess, the Hathor of Neferusi . In the late Middle Kingdom, Chemenu belonged to the district of Neferusi , whose borders included an area from northern Assiut to Tuna el-Gebel (10 kilometers west of Chemenu).
Neferusi is mentioned under Teti, son of Pepi , in the victory report of Kamose as a vassal of Hyksos and Setiu . Kamose destroyed the place Neferusi on his campaign against the Hyksos. Another mayor resided here in the New Kingdom, known by name are Iuno, Mahu, Iamunefer, and Pahahauti.
