Nefew ( spelling NEFEW ) is a Swiss hip-hop group from Windisch in Aargau. It consists of Polemikk (rapper, producer) and PA-Double (DJ, producer). Nefew is an acronym which stands for N ew E ducation F rom E very W ord. Her style is often compared to artists like Common , Kanye West , 9th Wonder , Kenn Starr, and Talib Kweli . Many of their productions contain soul samples as well as jazz pianos and string arrangements.

2007–2010: First album and Puma contract

In 2007 Nefew released their first studio album, Off the Cuff . It includes the song Admit It , a collaboration with the two Brooklyn rappers Wordsworth and Masta Ace . With this, Nefew made a name for himself in the American independent hip-hop scene.

In December 2009, Puma started supporting Nefew with a promotion. This allowed the duo to reach a wide variety of new audiences. Nefew is the first hip-hop show act to be sponsored by Puma.

Nefew released the EP Homesick . It is only available from the iTunes Music Store. The song Biko contains vocals by R&B singer Chanj and former Good Music interpreter Consequence. Biko reached number two on the US College Radio Charts.

2010–2014: Antihero multi-part

Antihero Begins was released in April 2010. It is an officially free mixtape. Although it has been declared a mixtape, it comes out more like a full album.

The mixtape had significant success, not least because it was featured with the prestigious hip-hop blog 2dopeboyz.com . Antihero Begins received good reviews. Okayplayer rated it 89 out of 100 points.

With Antihero Begins , DJ Green Lantern took notice of the group and had the idea to work together. In January 2011, Man Vs Many , presented by DJ Green Lantern, was released. Among others, singer Dwele and rapper / producer Nottz contributed to the mixtape. The album was later re-released as a digital album. In October 2011 the EP Transitions was released , which was produced entirely by the Berlin musician 7inch . The EP For Hip Hop , a collaboration with Nottz and Shakes, followed in 2012.

The album released in November 2014 is called Rise of the Antihero . It includes collaborations with artists such as BJ the Chicago Kid , Jared Evan and STS Gold.

2015–2016: Empire Deal and Slides EP

Nefew have been working with the US label Empire since 2016. The EP Slides is the first release under Empire and was released in June 2016. The song Brand New Summer premiered on Beats 1 Radio on the show by HOT97 legend Ebro Darden.
