Neftali Manzambi (born April 23, 1997 in Luanda , Angola ) is a Swiss - Angolan football player . He has been under contract with FC Basel since May 2017 , but is currently on loan to Sporting Gijón . He is also part of the Swiss U-20 and U-21 national team .
Career
Coming to Switzerland as a refugee from Angola, Neftali Manzambi played in his youth for FC La Chaux-de-Fonds and FC Xamax in 2007 and joined the youth department of FC Basel at the age of 12 , where he reached various levels up to U21 Team went through. In May 2017 he made his first appearance in the first team on the 32nd matchday against FC Thun (3: 3) under the then coach Urs Fischer . He was substituted on in the 75th minute for Adama Traoré . On matchday 35, in the 3-1 away win against Grasshopper Club Zurich , he was allowed to play again for a few minutes and at the end of the season celebrated the Swiss championship with FC Basel . In June 2017 he extended his contract with FC Basel and signed a three-year contract.
