The Negroni is a classic cocktail from Italy with a bitter-sweet taste. It is listed by the International Bartenders Association in the Pre-Dinner Cocktail ( Aperitif ) category .

preparation

The Negroni is prepared directly in a chilled tumbler (or old-fashioned glass ). Mix equal parts of gin , red (Italian) vermouth and the Campari bitter aperitif over a few ice cubes and garnish with half an orange slice or a piece of peel (“zest” or twist ).

history

The Negroni was invented in Florence in the Caffè Casoni (today Caffè Giacosa ) in Via de ′ Tornabuoni . It is named after Count Camillo Negroni, who ordered an Americano with gin from the bartender (Fosco Scarselli) for the first time between 1919 and 1920 .

variants

  • Sometimes a shot of soda water is added to the Negroni .
  • Often, contrary to the standard, the Negroni is served in martini glasses.
  • Negroni sbagliato (false Negroni), in which the gin is replaced by dry sparkling wine . This cocktail was invented in Bar Basso in Milan .
  • Negrosky , where the gin is replaced by vodka .
  • Bourbon whiskey replaces gin at the Boulevardier .
  • In the Lucien Gaudin Cocktail , dry French vermouth and triple sec play the role of Italian vermouth, and the proportion of gin is higher and contains less Campari.

Negroni Week

Since 2013 the Negroni Week ("Negroni Week") has taken place annually, in which thousands of bars all over the world now participate and each offer their own variant of the cocktail for a good cause. The organizers are the spirits group Campari and the beverage magazine Imbibe .
