Su Murrone necropolis

The necropolis of Su Murrone located at the foot of Mount Cucullai, about eight kilometers northeast of Chiaramonti in the region Anglona in the province of Sassari in Sardinia .

The necropolis is (similar to Anghelu Ruju ) in a trachyte plate and consists of three multicellular Domus de Janas with long dromoi . Compared to many other necropolises on the island, it shows a different appearance. It is not a question of horizontally laid out chambers in a spoiler lip, but of recessed chambers that can be reached via Dromoi. A number of side niches lead off from the respective main chamber. The most important is Tomba I with a small rectangular antechamber that leads into a main chamber from which six cells branch off radially (as in Tomba III by Anghelu Ruju). The grave shows a painting through red paint residues on the walls and on the relief of the ceiling. The ceiling imitates a gable roof with a ridge and 28 beams.

Under the decorative motifs, consisting of door frames and pilasters , reliefs of a bull's head protrude on the walls of the main chamber.

The excavation by Giuseppe Pitzalis in 1998 and 1999 made it possible to assign the necropolis to the Neolithic (around 3200 BC) and the Ozieri culture , with subsequent uses during the Copper , Bronze and Roman Ages.
