Singer Scott Stapp deals with his personal crises of the last three years in the lyrics. In the meantime, his wife had filed for divorce because of the consumption of crystal meth , amphetamines and steroids . She has since withdrawn the application. In addition, Scott Stapp was diagnosed with bipolar disorder , for which he was treated in a psychiatric ward. Stapp called the album therapy .
“When the news of Scott Weiland's death reached me, I knew I might as well have been in his place. It was as if Weiland and God wanted to give one last warning signal that I have to get my life right. "
Echo of a Scream is about a person who doubts himself. The self-confidence would be lost and the person is only a shell of himself. The song 1,000 Degrees is loud Scott Stapp a consideration of the person he was his personal crisis at the outbreak and again would if he would stop his treatment. In No Surrender, Stapp deals with the moments in life when you have your back to the wall and have to decide whether you want to be crushed by the problems or want to come out of your crisis stronger than before.
The theme song would paint a picture of Stapp's thoughts that he carried with him at the lowest point in his life. Changed Man refers to a conversation Scott Stapp and his wife had three years ago before he went into therapy. At the time the album was released, Stapp called himself a changed man. He got the inspiration for this topic after the music for the song was finished. In Afterburn , Stapp looks back on his life and names things that he would have done differently in retrospect.
