The Neptun 421 cargo ship series , also known as the Cam Doussié series, is a type of semi-container ship from the Rostock shipyard “Neptun”.

history

The series, which was further developed from the types Neptun 388 , Neptun 401 and Neptun 403, was manufactured from 1977 to 1985 in 33 units. The ships are primarily intended for the combined transport of general cargo, containers, as well as wood and bulk cargo.

The first ship and namesake of the series was the Cam Doussié with hull number 421 , which was handed over on November 29, 1977. The Cam Doussié , based in Cameroon , sank on March 2, 1987 after a collision at position 31 ° 54 ′  N , 10 ° 25 ′  W , with one death to be mourned. The second ship of this group was the Sol Tulla which after several renames on August 16, 1992 as United Sing in position 23 ° 13 '  N , 117 ° 15'  O was stranded and thereby the total loss. The following Sagaland with hull number 423 was the first ship in the series from October 29, 2000, which was canceled after only 22 years of service as the Thai Jutha Sarunpak in Chittagong. The fourth ship of the series, the Sol Laila proved unhappy and decreased as Raya Eclat on April 5, 1984 after a collision at the position 22 ° 8 '31 "  N , 114 ° 19' 52"  O . The seventh ship in the series, the hull number 427 , which was laid on keel as a Pasewalk and baptized Sigmund Jähn on December 29, 1978 under the name of the GDR's flying cosmonaut , occupies a special position . Even the bow of the Type 421, which was pulled far aft, was too short to spell out what is probably the longest ship name in German post-war history in one piece, whereupon it was attached to the bow in two lines. After several renaming from 1997 onwards under the name Loretta D., the ship reached Alang , India , on May 27th, 2009 , where it was put on the beach for demolition on June 5th. The Laplandia, completed in September 1985, marked the end of the successful series .

technology

The ships were powered by a 6620 kW two-stroke diesel engine of the type K9Z 60/105 E manufactured under MAN license from the manufacturer VEB Maschinenbau Halberstadt, which acts directly on a fixed propeller. The machine system is set up for guard-free operation.

The hulls with bulbous bow are joined together in a sectional construction. The living and working area of the aft deck superstructure, equipped with individual chambers, is air-conditioned.

The three cargo holds with a volume of 18,432 m 3 grain space and 17,000 m 3 bale space have intermediate decks with forklift-reinforced smooth deck hatches, cargo spaces II and III are closed with folding hatch covers that are divided amidships.

445 containers can be transported. The loading gear consists of five 20 and 40 ton loading booms .
