Nerf Herder is a fun punk band that was formed in California in 1994 . The name comes from the film The Empire Strikes Back , in which Princess Leia insults Han Solo at one point as a nerf herder (in the German dubbed version the place is "Wookie driver").

history

The original line-up included main songwriters Parry Gripp, Charlie Dennis and Steve "The Cougar" Sherlock. The trio celebrated their first successes in the radio charts with the song Van Halen , a satirical reminiscence of the legendary hard rock band, which led their singer Sammy Hagar to say that Nerf Herder are fagots . Under the direction of Lagwagon head Joey Cape , the debut album was recorded, which had the band name as the title and was published by Arista Records . All the later trademarks of the band were already present here: laid-back, cheeky, sometimes quite pubescent lyrics combined with a simple but melodic punk rock .

In 1998 Dennis left the band and was replaced by Pete Newbury; In addition, Dave Ehrlich was hired as the second guitarist. Newbury was in advance of a Europe - tour replaced by Justin Fisher. Because the band felt badly represented by their label Arista , they switched to Honest Don's in 1999 and released their second album How to Meet Girls there . It contains pieces like Courtney (dedicated to Courtney Love ) or Five Thousand Ways to Die . In addition, Nerf Herder contributed the title song to the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and brought an EP called My EP on the market.

In 2002 the third album American Cheese was finally released , which offers the tried and tested mixture of silly lyrics and easy-going fun punk. Jenna Bush , the daughter of the US President , and the New Wave music of the eighties are among those being targeted. At the same time, a new edition of My EP was released, expanded by a few songs. In 2003, the group finally fell apart, and two years later the original line-up, Gripp-Dennis-Sherlock, came together again. In April 2008 a new album was released with Nerf Herder IV . Shortly after the record was released, Linus "of Hollywood" Dotson joined the band. The latest change in the band constellation came at the end of 2009, when Ben Pringle replaced bassist and singer Charlie Dennis. Since then, nothing has changed in this composition.

Parry Gripp has now released a solo album, For Those About to Shop, We Salute You .
