EMC NetWorker (formerly Legato NetWorker ) is a software solution from EMC Corporation for data backup in large companies.

NetWorker automates and centralizes data backups on tape , hard drive and flash- based storage media in physical and virtual environments and supports the operating systems Linux , Windows , Macintosh , NetWare , OpenVMS and Unix . The deduplication of backup data is solved by EMC Data Domain (DD Boost) and EMC Avamar . A central NetWorker server manages a so-called data zone with the associated backup clients and NetWorker storages .

The Java- based NetWorker Management Console (NMC) provides a user interface for functions such as client configuration, policy settings, schedules, monitoring, reports and backup execution.

NetWorker originally backs up client file systems and operating system environments. Using add-ons such as As NMDA ( EMC NetWorker Module for Databases and Applications ) can also databases and applications such as Oracle , DB2 , SAP , Lotus , Informix (where he was directly as a client supplied) and Sybase , and Microsoft Exchange Server , SharePoint and Microsoft SQL Server secured become. Client backup data can be written to external NetWorker storage or to a locally connected backup medium.

NetWorker PowerSnap modules automate the generation of point-in-time snapshots and the cloning of data on supported disk arrays such as EMC CLARiiON and Symmetrix . The NDMP module can be used for clientless backups of NAS filters such as EMC Celerra or NetApp .

Servers virtualized with VMware can be backed up directly by installing the NetWorker client on the virtual machine or by using the VMware vStorage API (VADP) from VMware. NetWorker also supports backing up and restoring Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and Hyper-V using Volume Shadow Copy Service .
