New Jewish cemetery (Fulda)

The New Jewish Cemetery Fulda is a cemetery in the city of Fulda in the Fulda district in East Hesse . It is a protected cultural monument and is located in the area south of the railway crossing of Mainstrasse, west of Heidelsteinstrasse and north of Volkersbergstrasse. It is still used as a cemetery for the Jewish community that was re-established after 1945 . There are around 380 grave sites on it today.

history

The cemetery was laid out in 1904 on what was then Edelzeller Weg - today's Heidelsteinstrasse. From 1906 to 1940, around 400 burials including children's graves were carried out on an area of ​​around 2500 m². The cemetery property was originally 10,490 m². During November 1938 pogrom were from Nazis all grave stones knocked over and destroyed the House of the Dead. The last burials took place in this cemetery in autumn 1940. It was closed in October 1940. Those who died in Fulda before the deportations were buried in Weyhers until March 1942 .
