Jan Willem Wijn
Jan Willem Wijn (* 1891 ; † 1965 ) was a Dutch officer and historian .
He attended the Koninklijke Militaire Academie in Breda and received his doctorate in history from the University of Utrecht under Gerhard Wilhelm Kernkamp in 1934 . In 1938/39 he was director of the Koninklijk Nederlands Legermuseum in Delft. After 1945 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1946 , the first professional historian at the Nederlands Instituut voor Militaire Historie in The Hague. In 1951 he retired. In 1955 he was appointed titular colonel. In 1965 he bequeathed his military private collection to the institute.
From 1955 to 1960 he was Vice-President and from 1960 to 1965 President of the Commission Internationale d'Histoire Militaire .
