Massimo de Leonardis

Massimo de Leonardis (* 1949 in Trigolo ) is an Italian political scientist and military historian .

After completing his military service, De Leonardis studied international relations, political science and philosophy at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan (doctorate). He then taught u. a. at the Università Europea di Roma and at the universities in Trieste and Genoa . In 1979 de Leonardis was a Wolfson Fellow at the British Academy . In 1985 he went to the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California as a visiting fellow . In 1993/94 he was a NATO Individual Research Fellow and in 1999 a fellow at the Salzburg Seminar . Repeatedly he was research director of the Centro militare di studi strategici .

De Leonardis is currently Professor of the History of International Relations and Institutions and also teaches History of Treaties and International Politics at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan. Since 2005 he has headed the political science faculty. He also coordinates the master's degree in diplomacy at the Istituto per gli studi di politica internazionale in Milan, which is financed by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs . He is an advisor to various institutions and a member of several editorial boards and is responsible for the Quaderni del Dipartimento di Scienze Politiche .

Previously active in the Italian Society for Military History and the Italian Society for International History, he was Vice-President from 2010 to 2015 and since then President of the Commission Internationale d'Histoire Militaire .

De Leonardis is married and has two children.
