Piet Kamphuis

Pieter Hendrik "Piet" Kamphuis (short: PH Kamphuis ; * 1953 in Groningen ) is a Dutch military historian .

Kamphuis, reserve officer , studied modern and contemporary history at the University of Groningen and conducted research at the University of Leiden. In 1981 he became a research assistant at the Military History Department of the Dutch Army , whose direction he took over in 1990. In 2005 he was the founding director of the Netherlands Institute for Military History (NIMH).

He was Secretary General from 2000 to 2010 and President of the Commission Internationale d'Histoire Militaire from 2010 to 2015 . Since then he has been Honorary President of the Commission. Kamphuis also advises the Dutch Ministry of Defense .

His main research interests are Dutch security policy , World War II and deployments. He is the author of the military journal Militaire Spectator . The English translation of the anthology (edited together with Herman Amersfoort ) on the history of the occupation of the Netherlands in 1940 was published in 2010 by the scientific publisher Brill .
