The New Building (or Gray House ) in Chur

The new building (also known as the Graues Haus due to the gray facades) in the Grisons canton capital Chur is a listed building in the northeast of the old town at Reichsgasse 35 . It is located on the government square and is included in the list of cultural assets of national importance in the Canton of Graubünden .

History and equipment

The officer Andreas von Salis-Soglio had the four-storey, hipped roof-covered building built in 1751-52 in the style of an externally simple baroque with symmetrical facade windows by the master builder Johannes Grubenmann .

The interior shows itself as a representative city palace with largely paneled and stuccoed rooms and a state hall.

In 1807, the young canton of Graubünden bought the building and dedicated it to the conference building of the state government with the state chancellery and council as the cantonal executive .

Old building

The old building in Poststrasse houses u. a. the cantonal court.
