from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The new stone gate is structurally related to the Anzeiger high-rise , to the right of it

The New Stone Gate in Hanover is a large commercial building based on a design by the Cologne architect Gottfried Böhm . With its material, its verticality pointing towards the sky and design details, it refers to the neighboring Anzeiger high-rise . The location is Goseriede 1-5 near the Am Steintor square and Lange Laube street in the Mitte district .

history

The Am Steintor square was only created after the air raids on Hanover in World War II , which destroyed large areas of the buildings. For decades the square remained unsatisfactory in terms of urban planning . In 1984 the city of Hanover announced an architectural competition for the design of the open space, which the architect Gottfried Böhm was able to win. The completed building originally offered a half-open, glass-covered passage as a connection to the long arbor .

On September 18, 2013, two stumbling blocks were erected on the site of the former Lange Laube 5 building in memory of the victims of the Holocaust “Dr. med. Otto Warschauer and his wife Lucie, née Meyer ”.

Building description

The building referring to the Anzeiger high-rise presents itself with red clinkered grid facades, which are raised in three places and open on the lower floors to the large portals . There, steel “ trusses ” indicate the flow of forces in the facade.
