Neuseen Classics - all about brown coal

The road cycling event Neuseen Classics - All about lignite takes place annually in Leipzig and the surrounding and eponymous Leipziger Neuseenland , which is characterized by lignite mining and the subsequent recultivation and renaturation . From 2005 to 2012, the one-day race took place as part of the international competition calendar of the UCI World Cycling Association . Since 2016 only everyone's races have been held.

One day race

The race was held for the first time in 1966 under the name All around the brown coal . After a long break, it was held again in 2004. From 2005 it was part of the UCI Europe Tour and was initially classified in category 1.2. In 2007 it was upgraded and belonged to UCI category 1.1 until 2012. In the next two years there was no race for license drivers. In 2015, both men and women again held elite races that were registered in the national calendar of the Association of German Cyclists , but this was not repeated in the following years.

The public races are held for all age groups and over different distances. There are also celebrity races, young talent races, various races for school children of all ages and Bambini races for kindergarten children. In 2015 there were two racing days on May 16 and 17, 2015, on which different distances were offered. In addition, the German University Championship organized by the General German University Sports Association and the German Company Championship were held on the public routes.

Supporting program

On the event area, an extensive supporting program ensures all-day entertainment and turns the event into a folk festival. In 2015, the event was integrated into a cycling theme week, in which various program items are offered for cycling enthusiasts as well as for families and other sports enthusiasts.
