Nevzat Akpınar

Nevzat Akpınar (* 1968 in Sivas ) is a Turkish baglama player, composer, musicologist and music group leader.

The self-taught Bağlama attended masterclasses with Talip Özkan in the 1980s . He received lessons in composition and instruments from Tayfun Erdem . Akpınar completed his studies in comparative musicology (music ethnology) and Turkish studies in Berlin in 2002.

The musician composed solo pieces for Bağlama based on Turkish poems and chamber music. His piece for string orchestra Johann Dede was performed in the Philharmonie with the help of the Berliner Symphoniker .

As a baglama player, Akpınar took part in projects as diverse as the European tour of Mikis Theodorakis and Zülfü Livaneli and the George Tabori production of The Abduction from the Seraglio . He also accompanied readings with the well-known translator from Turkish Gisela Kraft musically. Akpınar has also released two music albums with Zotos Compania . The musician had a concert in New York's Carnegie Hall with the Nevzat Akpınar Ensemble named after him as part of a Berlin festival.
