Newburgh is a town in the Scottish Council Area Fife . It is located around twelve kilometers southeast of Perth and 18 kilometers southwest of Dundee at the head of the Firth of Tay .
history
Newburgh's early development is linked to Lindores Abbey to the east . In 1266, the Scottish King Alexander III. Newburgh in the estate of a Burghs of Barony . In 1631 it was upgraded to a Royal Burgh . With this, Newburgh developed into a market town and in the 18th century was home to one of the two most important ports in Fife for handling flax fiber . During the 19th century, linen, jute, and linoleum- producing businesses settled in Newburgh. Furthermore, the salmon fishery was of some importance. Today textile and construction companies are located in a small industrial park.
The approximately 2.5 kilometers to the south mansion Pitcairlie House developed from the 16th century.
The dignity of Earl of Newburgh in the Peerage of Scotland , created on December 31, 1660, passed through female succession to the Italian Prince Rospigliosi , whose current boss Filippo Giambattista is the 12th Earl.

The A913 ( Aberargie - Cupar ) runs through Newburgh and connects the village directly to the trunk road network. On May 18, 1848, the North British Railway opened a station in Newburgh. While the station was closed in September 1955, the line continues to operate.
