The Russian-Swedish action film Newsmakers - Terror Has a New Face ( Russian Горячие новости ), also Raid of Death , from 2009 is a remake of the Chinese film Breaking News .

action

A police unit led by Lieutenant Smirnov is shadowing a gang of thieves that is responsible for several attacks on money transporters. There is a shootout in which several police officers are killed. As the criminals flee, there is another exchange of fire, which is filmed by a television team who happens to be present. Again, the thieves can escape even if one of them dies.

After the video was broadcast on television, the Moscow police suffered a serious loss of image. Meanwhile, the gang of thieves holed up in a block of flats and took hostages there . While Smirnov and his people are looking for the criminals in the house, Katya, the police's PR chief , decides that the hostages will be freed by a special unit and broadcast live on television in order to improve the police's reputation among the population .

The house is evacuated and only Smirnov remains behind, despite Katya's repeated requests to leave the house, as he wants to personally avenge the deaths of his colleagues. The transfer is a complete success, but the release of the hostages is difficult. Only after several exchanges of fire do the hostages leave the house under a sheet. Except for the spokesman, all the hostage-takers are killed or arrested.

This takes Katya hostage and flees. He is followed by Smirnov. After shooting more people, he threatens to shoot Katya, but is first struck down by Smirnov.

The credits show how the Moscow Police Chief thanks Katya and Smirnov.
