youth

Neyma Júlio Afredo was born on May 6, 1979 in the Mozambican capital Maputo. She lost her mother Lina Duarta at an early age, so that she grew up with her father Paulino Afredo. She began to practice her passion for singing and dancing at an early age.

At the age of 16 she took part in the casting show Fantasia on a Mozambican television station. She won second place on the show with the song The Greatest Love of All (by Whitney Houston ) and then began to appear much more frequently and sang on numerous stages and nightclubs. In addition, she became more professional and took singing lessons.

First albums

With her first producer Júlio Silva she released her first album on CD in 1999 with the title Brigas . Success came quickly. The song Praia Feliz was particularly popular . The album was followed by two more: Baila (2000) and Renascer (2001).

Neyma only achieved a breakthrough outside Mozambique with the release of her fourth album Arromba in 2005. With the album, she also entered the sales charts in Angola , Cape Verdes and Portugal . Arromba is still her most successful album to this day (2016). With more than 40,000 copies sold, it gained platinum status in Mozambique. In her album Idiomas , released at the end of 2006, Neyma first used new, partly traditional Mozambican musical styles such as marrabenta , coupé-décalé and kizomba .

In particular, Neyma used the style of marrabenta from now on, and even more so from 2010. Her single Como Anima a Marrabenta was considered very successful.

New business areas

Neyma had already tried to set up a toy company in 2008, but initially failed. Five years later, she sold shoes, sandals and stationery under her own brand "Neyma" for the first time. She accompanied the sale with the release of her own music single called Parabéns , which was specifically aimed at children. She is said to have written the single with her daughter.

In 2014, the UN Children's Fund UNICEF named her a children's ambassador. In late 2014, Neyma released a collection of her best-known songs under the title Neyma Greatest Hits . At the same time, she performed a large three-hour concert in the Gil Vicente cinema in the capital. Numerous Mozambican artists - Mingas , Stewart Sukuma , José Valdemiro , Júlia Duarte , Dama do Bling , Cláudio Isabel , Lil Banks and Mr. Bow - accompanied the artist on her grand appearance.
