NRM (abbreviation for Belarusian Незалежная Рэспубліка Мроя / Nesaleschnaja Respublika Mroja, German  Independent Republic of Dreams ) is a rock band from Minsk , Belarus , which was founded in 1994. She gives concerts and sings in the local language. It was subject to a de facto performance ban for several years, as it was considered a rallying point for political opposition to the government. Since 2008 the band has been able to perform again in Belarus. In January 2011, the other band members announced that singer Ljawon Wolski was taking an artistic break. Wolski himself denied having asked for such a break. The explanations fueled speculation that the band would soon end.

history

Lyawon Wolski

The band emerged from an earlier group, Mroja (which means "dreams"). Their music can be assigned to melodic punk or hard rock. She sings her songs in Belarusian with funny and often indirectly political texts. NRM appeared in Kiev in 2004 in support of the Orange Revolution in Ukraine , hoping that a similar, peaceful revolution would happen in their own country. Numerous appearances abroad followed, e. B. in Germany , Poland , Slovakia and Sweden . In their homeland, however, the group was put on the prohibited list, which is why they rarely gave concerts there.
