Note: The surname of this Vietnamese name is Nguyễn , in Western texts the spelling is often simplified Nguyen . According to Vietnamese custom, the person should be referred to by their first name Linh - even in formal situations .

Nguyễn Văn Linh (born July 1, 1915 , † April 27, 1998 ) was a Vietnamese revolutionary and politician, during the Vietnam War a guerrilla fighter for the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam . From 1986 to 1991 he was general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam .

Like his successor Đỗ Mười, Nguyen was a representative of market economy reforms without political liberalization and was replaced in 1991 allegedly for health reasons.
