The Nicholson River is a river in the northeast of the Australian state of Western Australia , or in the far northwest of the Northern Territory . Most of it is in the Kimberley region .
geography
The river has its source near the Koolerong Bore on the Buntine Highway in the Northern Territory on the border with Western Australia. It then flows to the southwest and passes under the Duncan Road at the settlement of Nicholson , which it then follows to the southwest. After flowing through the Marella Gorge , it turns north and flows into the Ord River on the southeastern edge of the Purnululu National Park , below Doughboy Hill .
