Do not try this! is a satirical science show that was first broadcast on ZDF on June 29, 2012 . The episodes were repeated on ZDFneo in different versions. The content of the episodes are attempts by the moderators Wigald Boning and Bernhard Hoëcker , in which they deliberately disregard warnings, among other things, from household items. It is an adaptation of the format Ikke gjør dette hjemme (German: "Do not do that at home") of the Norwegian broadcaster NRK .

concept

The episodes show experiments which, without safety measures, would result in serious injury or damage. For example, a bathroom on the first floor was flooded with water until the floor collapsed, or a water bed was filled to the point of bursting. In other experiments, the moderators exploded fireworks in the living room or cans on the stove. Boning and Hoëcker accompany the experiments with satirical and ironic comments. Certain procedures can be recognized again and again. For example, several filled glass bottles were heated in a microwave and a comparison of kitchen appliances that are not built for the respective discipline can be found several times.

Locations

Filming location of the second season in Rahden

The experiments of the first season were filmed in the area of a demolished house in Troisdorf . The filming location of the second season is a farm in Rahden in the Minden-Lübbecke district .

consequences

The two seasons each have six episodes. These were always broadcast on Fridays from June 29 to August 17, 2012 (exception: July 27, August 3) and from July 26 to September 6, 2013 (exception: August 30) on ZDF. The second season ran on ZDFneo with the changed cut. Since then, the episodes have been mixed and broadcast irregularly. A third season is not planned.

On Prime Video and Netflix , the two seasons can be seen with four episodes each of around 42 minutes.

hazards

The experiments in the program often required tightened security measures. Firefighters and medical services were present every time. In some experiments inside the house, doors were replaced by Plexiglas panes in order to observe what was happening in a protected manner.

On one day of shooting, Wigald Boning suffered slight smoke poisoning from the interaction of an experiment in which fireworks were set off in a closed room and another in which an outboard motor worked as a kitchen mixer. He himself stated that the poisoning had largely disappeared the following night. An accident happened to Bernhard Hoëcker while lighting a magnesium- powered barbecue. While he was trying to get out of the flame in a hurry, his Achilles tendon half tore .

reception

BW

The first episode achieved a market share of 9.3 percent, and 9.2 percent among younger viewers. The ZDF sees its plan to fill the summer break of the show with a format that is also intended to attract young viewers.
