Joseph Nicholas Patrick Hamilton (born November 9, 1959 in Lakeland , Florida ) is an American pro-wrestler who is now a referee in pro-wrestling. He is the son of wrestler Jody "The Assassin" Hamilton and is better known by his ring name Nick Patrick .

After the mid-1990s, Hamilton was one of the better-known referees who was controversial among fans and players . He was shown as a partial referee of the WCW and later as his own referee of the wrestling table New World Order (nWo). Especially in the nWo time, Hamilton was present several times a week on television channels in the USA and Europe.

Career

1979 / 80-1996

Hamilton's start as a pro wrestler is contradicted today. In the German-language wrestling databases “Broken Neck” and “Cagematch” the years 1979 and 1980 are given.

In the early days, Hamilton competed in smaller, independent leagues organized as part of the National Wrestling Alliance . Later he started working as a referee in the NWA due to a neck injury. In the course of time he made it from regional to chief referee of the WCW .

1996-1997

In 1996 and 1997, Hamilton was involved in the storyline that helped WCW achieve a market-leading promotion . To this end, after the event "Bash at the Beach 1996", he was involved in setting up the New World Order table.

Hamilton has been depicted as a partisan referee by World Championship Wrestling . So he helped for example, in "Road Wild 1996" Scott Hall and Kevin Nash in a match against Sting and Lex Luger by a quickly implemented Three-Count for their victory .

In the course of the elaborated storyline , Hamilton intervened more and more often as referee of the WCW in the match events and helped various nWo wrestlers to victory through wrong decisions . Other times he feigned neck pain and counted the three count slowly or not at all, for example at "Halloween Havoc 1996" when he brought WCW wrestler Randy Savage for the WCW World Heavyweight Title against nWo leader Hollywood Hogan .

Shortly before Hamilton was officially presented as a nWo member, he led - in addition to his appearances as a partial WCW referee - anonymously and masked as an "nameless nWo member" some matches in the WCW.

In 1997, Hamilton was officially appointed as nWo referee by the WCW. In this way he was integrated into the developed storyline in the long term. At “Soulet Out 1997” he led every match of the evening.

In the show "Spring Stampede 1997" Hamilton was removed from the storyline. So after a match between Kevin Nash (nWo) and Rick Steiner (WCW) he sided with the WCW.

1997-2001

During this time, Hamilton worked exclusively for WCW again. But his reputation for being partisan stayed with him for a long time. For example with “Starrcade 1997”, when Bret Hart demanded a restart of the match after Hollywood Hogan's victory . Hart was of the opinion that Hamilton had executed the three-count too quickly and thus robbed Sting of the victory. The WCW World Heavyweight Title was declared vacant and Hamilton was on leave. Hamilton was only activated again in the "1998 Superbrawl" and was allowed to award the latter the victory in the re-match between Hogan and Sting as substitute referee, this time after an undisputed three-count.

2001-2008

When World Championship Wrestling was bought up by the then World Wrestling Federation in 2001 , Hamilton was allowed to resume his role as a partial referee . So he decided in matches of the WWF wrestlers against their opponents from the WCW exclusively in favor of the latter. The WWF Board of Directors finally set a match in which Hamilton had to play against WWF chief referee Earl Hebner. This took place at "WWF Invasion" and Hamilton lost it. Then Hamilton was used as a referee at Smackdown . There he rose to the position of chief referee and was active as such until 2008.
