Nick Noble (singer)
Nick Noble (born June 21, 1926 as Nicholas Valkan in Chicago , † March 24, 2012 in Cook County , Illinois ) was an American singer who was at home in pop and country music .
biography
Nick Noble aka Nicholas Valkan was the son of Greek immigrants and grew up on the South Side of Chicago. After his military service in the US Navy, he took up a degree in economics at Loyola University Chicago , which he completed in 1951 with a bachelor's degree. In 1954 he was discovered as a singer by the A&R manager of the record company Mercury Records Lou Douglas and began to publish records under the stage name Nick Noble.
After two singles , he was deported to the Wing sub-label in 1955, but had his first record success there with his first production The Bible Tells Me So in the summer of 1955. The song reached number 22 in the Billboard charts . Noble also returned to the charts six months later with another Wing record entitled To You, My Love , this time at number 27. In 1956, Noble returned to Mercury , where he produced about ten singles by 1957. Among them was the single titled A Fallen Star , which was Billboard listing 20 in the summer of 1957, becoming the biggest hit for Noble. The title Moonlight Swim on the successor record also entered the Billboard charts at number 37, after which it became quieter for Nick Noble. After a short episode on the small label Fraternity Nobel got a long-term contract with Coral Records in 1958 , which ran until 1961. This was followed by short-term engagements with various record companies until 1977, interrupted by longer breaks in the years between 1969 and 1977. With his releases with the Churchill Records record company in 1978 and 1980, Noble had switched to the country style and won two titles ( Stay with Me , 40 .; I Wanna Go Back , 72.) entered the country charts. He published his last two new recordings in 1979 on TMS, which earned him two more listings in the country charts ( The Girl on the Other Side , 36; Big Man's Cafe , 35). During his singing career, Noble released over 100 singles and four long-playing records .
In the early 1980s, Noble took over the Chicago restaurant "Lou Mitchell's" from his uncle, which he ran until 1993. He then retired to Beverly Hills and died in 2012 at the age of 85.
