Nick Thompson (born June 23, 1981 in Newport News , Virginia ) is an American martial artist from Minneapolis . His nickname is The Goat , English for The Goat . He fights in various mixed martial arts leagues and was on April 14, 2007 Bodog Fight - welterweight champion against Eddie Alvarez .

Nick Thompson is 185 cm tall and weighs around 77 kilograms. As of June 8, 2008, his professional fighting career comprised 36 wins, nine losses and one draw.

Thompson was born in Newport News, Virginia and raised in Minnesota . He started at the Eastview High School in Apple Valley with the wrestling and soon became one of the best wrestlers in the state. He continued this sport at the University of Wisconsin and came across mixed martial arts. He started training at Dave Strasser's Freestyle Academy in Kenosha and had his first fights. Thompson was at the beginning, both in training and in combat very poor and often went KO . Hence his nickname Goat , based on the Fainting Goat , a goat breed that collapses immediately when excited. Thompson then moved to the Minnesota Martial Arts Academy and began training in Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu . In 2005 he made his debut in the Ultimate Fighting Championship , and in 2006 he signed with Bodog Fight. He successfully defended his welterweight title won there twice.
