Nick Webb

Nicholas "Nick" Webb (* 1954 in Manchester , † February 5, 1998 in London ) was a British jazz guitarist and composer in the field of smooth jazz and New Age .

Webb was a nephew of actress Sylvia Syms and had as a child actor with her and Tony Hancock in the 1963 feature film The Punch and Judy Man . As a teenager he performed as a folk singer and studied at Leeds College of Music, then briefly literature in London before he switched to music full-time. With Greg Carmichael he founded the jazz formation Acoustic Alchemy in 1987 , with whom they recorded the debut album Red Dust and Spanish Lace for MCA . The band became successful in 1990 after switching to the GRP Records label , which led to two Grammy nominations, for the song Caravan of Dreams (from the album Reference Point , 1991) and for the album Arcanum from 1996. Webb died at the age of 43 a pancreatic tumor . In 2007 the tribute album Into the Rainbow: A Tribute to Nick Webb (Prestige) was released.
