The nickel glasses (named after the frame , formerly made of the metal nickel , today mostly made of other materials as a retro look ) are mostly round and often also small form of the glasses frame . Like horn-rimmed glasses , they experienced a new phase of fashion popularity among intellectuals in the 1970s .

Well-known wearers of nickel glasses are or were the British musician John Lennon , the television presenter Peter Lustig , the snooker player Martin Gould and the German politicians Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg and Gregor Gysi . I.a. modeled after John Lennon was on the strength of East German young people who are the Blueserszene felt belonging borne evidence is lacking .
