Nicolás Moreno

Nicolás Moreno (born December 28, 1923 in Mexico City ; † February 4, 2012 ) is a Mexican graphic artist and landscape painter .

Moreno studied from 1941 to 1945 at the Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado "La Esmeralda" (ENPEG) and from 1943 also as a scholarship holder at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes (ENBA). In 1946 he taught landscape painting at "El Mexe" in Hildalgo , and in 1947 art education at the Escuela Normal para Señoritas and at secondary schools. In 1948 he received a scholarship from the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura . In 1949 he was a founding member of the Salón de la Plástica Mexicana and has taught since 1951 at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), the so-called Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas (ENAP). In 1953 he got the chair as professor there. In 1958 he also headed the textile workshop at the Escuela de Diseño y Artesanías of the UNAM.

His work has been shown in numerous exhibitions around the world. His work also includes some murals , for example in the Museo Nacional de Antropología one with a prehistoric representation of the Valle de Teotihuacan (Teotihuacan Valley), one with a representation of the landscape of Suchitepec and one with a representation of the Valle del Mezquital (Mezquital- Tal) as well as a mural at the Centro Cultural del México Contemporáneo of the UNAM. He has received several honors and awards for his work.
