Nicolae “Coco” Dumitrescu (born December 8, 1921 in Bucharest , † March 17, 1999 ) was a Romanian football player and coach . He enters 164 games in the highest Romanian football league, the Divizia A . As a coach, he led the Romanian national youth team to win the title in 1962.
Career as a player
Nicolae Dumitrescu's career began in 1941 when he was promoted to the first team of Sportul Studențesc from Bucharest. Due to the outbreak of the Second World War , Divizia A's game operation was suspended at that time , so that it was initially only used in the transitional tournaments.
After the war, Dumitrescu left Sportul and moved to ITA Arad (later Flamura Roşie Arad) in Divizia A, so that he came to his first use on September 22nd and immediately scored a goal in the game against UDR Reşița . Dumitrescu stayed with ITA until the end of his career in 1955 and had a successful time. He was able to win four championships ( 1947 , 1948 , 1950 and 1954 ) and two cup wins ( 1948 and 1953 ).
National team
In 1947 and 1948 Dumitrescu played ten times for the Romanian national football team and scored two goals. His first mission was on May 25, 1947 against Albania .
Career as a coach
After the end of his active career, Dumitrescu worked as a coach. He led the Romanian national youth team at the UEFA youth tournament in 1962 to win the title in his own country. From 1966 to 1973 Dumitrescu trained his former club UTA Arad in Divizia A , where he won two championship titles in 1969 and 1970 . So he was involved in all of the club's title wins. He later worked as head coach from 1975 to 1976 and at the end of the 1978/79 season for UTA.
After a long break, Dumitrescu was again coach of UTA Arad in the early 1990s and led the club back to Divizia A. After relegation in 1994 , he ended his career.
