Nicolai Næss (born January 18, 1993 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian football player on the position of central defender. He is currently under contract with Sarpsborg 08 FF .
Career
Næss began his football career in his native Norway with the lower class Klemetsrud IL . He later joined the youth department of Vålerenga Oslo , where he rose to the top professional team in 2012. There he made his professional debut on March 31, 2012 in the 3-2 defeat in the league game against Strømsgodset IF , when he came on for Kristofer Hæstad in the 77th minute . The following season he moved to Stabæk IF in the second division, but rose with the club at the end of the season back to the first Norwegian division and established himself there. On March 30, 2014, he scored his first professional goal on matchday 1 of the 2014 season in a 3-0 win against Sogndal Fotball . Næss himself also established himself in Stabæk's central defense. After the rather moderate 2016 season, in which Stabæk was only able to secure relegation in relegation, Næss moved to Major League Soccer to Columbus Crew . He played regularly there too, but towards the end of the 2017 season his number of appearances decreased and he returned to Europe to join SC Heerenveen . There he did not get beyond the role of the supplementary player. In his first season he came to only nine league appearances, of which he completed only two over the full distance. In the first half of the 2018/19 season, he was only substituted in in the 3-5 defeat against Heracles Almelo on matchday five . For the second half of the season he moved back to Norway to Sarpsborg 08 FF .
In 2012 he played two games for the Norwegian U-19 national team .
