Nicolas Benezet (born February 24, 1991 in Montpellier ) is a French football player .
Club career
Benezet began playing football in his hometown of Montpellier, where he joined the youth of the local professional club HSC Montpellier as a child . From there he moved in 2004 to the juniors of the nearby competitor Olympique Nîmes . At Nîmes he was appointed to the second division team for the first time at the age of 19 and made his professional debut in a 0-0 draw against FC Istres on October 15, 2010, when he was substituted on in the 59th minute; henceforth he came first to regular substitutions before he became a regular player in the further course of the season. Even if he had to accept relegation to the third division at the end of the 2010/11 season, he was also equipped with a first-team contract. In the third division, he was able to maintain his position as a top performer and in this way contributed to the direct resurgence in 2012.
With nine goals in the 2012/13 season, the midfielder kept the promoted player in the upper half of the table and at the same time aroused the interest of several top division clubs; Interested parties included Girondins Bordeaux , OGC Nice , SC Bastia and his hometown club HSC Montpellier. However, the contract for a change in the 2013 summer break went to FC Évian Thonon Gaillard , who had fought relegation from the top division in the previous season; a transfer fee of one and a half million euros was due for this. At Évian he was then usually part of the starting XI, even if he was not a completely undisputed regular player.
On February 2, 2015, Benezet was loaned to first division rivals SM Caen as part of a transfer exchange with Mathieu Duhamel . With this he reached relegation at the end of the season, while Évian was relegated to the second highest division. This did not affect him personally, however, as he moved to the first division club EA Guingamp in Brittany in the west of France in the run-up to the 2015/16 season. This brought Évian a transfer fee of 1.2 million euros.
National team
During the preparatory phase for the U-20 World Cup 2011 , Benezet was in the squad of the French U-20 selection , for which he made his debut on June 2, 2011, when he came into the game in the 67th minute in the 4-1 win against Mexico came. Although he played two more games, he did not make it into the final squad and was not called up again in a French youth team.
