Nicolas Thyrel de Boismont
Nicolas Thyrel de Boismont (* around 1715 near Rouen ; † December 20, 1786 in Paris ) was a French theologian and preacher .
Life
After studying theology, Boismont was vicar general in Amiens , canon in Rouen and commander abbot of the Grestain monastery . He was considered an eloquent speaker early on, which is probably one of the reasons why he was called to Paris in 1749 and he became court preacher to Louis XV. In 1750 he gave a widely acclaimed eulogy for Louis IX. , St. Ludwig.
He frequented the circles of the Philosophes and in the literary salon of Julie de Lespinasse . In 1755 he was elected a member of the Académie française - despite an affair with the Duchess of Chaulnes . For the Académie he gave numerous funeral orations for members of the royal family, including the Dauphin Louis Ferdinand de Bourbon , Queen Maria Leszczyńska , and King Louis XV. and for the Spanish Infanta and Dauphine Maria Theresia Rafaela of Spain .
The complete works of his sermons were published by Jacques Paul Migne in 1854.
