Nicolaus Anton Friedreich

Nicolaus Anton Friedreich (born February 24, 1761 in Würzburg ; † September 5, 1836 there ) was a German physician.

Friedreich studied medicine in Würzburg, Erlangen and Göttingen and then worked as a medical carer in the orphanage and foundling house and at the aristocratic seminary in Würzburg. He received his doctorate in 1788 under the professor and dean Adam Andreas Senfft (1740–1795) and in 1795 professor of medicine at the University of Würzburg . From 1806 he was the chief physician of the Juliusspital . Appointed royal councilor in 1818, Friedreich went into early retirement in 1819 due to illness. In 1824 he retired. He died almost blind in 1836.

He was the father of the forensic doctor Johann Baptist Friedreich (1796–1862) and the grandfather of the pathologist Nicolaus Friedreich (1825–1882).
