Hans Meyer (actor)
Hans Meyer (born July 21, 1925 in Paulpietersburg , Natal , South Africa ; † April 3, 2020 in Neuilly-sur-Seine ) was a South African actor .
Life
Meyer grew up in South Africa. In 1958 he went to London . He originally wanted to be a barman ; a photographer friend he knew from Cape Town took photos of him, which Meyer submitted to an advertising agency . Due to his distinctive face, he was hired for various advertising campaigns in Great Britain, Germany and Spain , including cigarettes, vodka and cognac. From 1962 Meyer lived in Paris . There he applied as an extra for the film, where he was engaged by Anatole Litvak for his film The Night of the Generals . Meyer even got his first small speaking role.
In the 1960s he played supporting roles in numerous French films alongside French cinema stars such as Lino Ventura , Alain Delon and Jean-Paul Belmondo . In 1966 he was hired for the comedy Drei Bruchpiloten in Paris , also: “The Big Sause” (La grande vadrouille) , where he played an angry SS representative. He was seen in one scene with Bourvil and Louis de Funès ; however, the scenes had been filmed separately. In 1968 he played in the action thriller Der Teufelsgarten by Yves Boisset . In 1969 he took on the role of Sheriff Blade in the thriller Breakfast with the Killer, shot in Spain . In 1970 he played in the western Cannons for Cordoba on the side of Raf Vallone , Giovanna Ralli and George Peppard in the role of the Swedish major Svedberg, the leader of a private mercenary army .
In 1975 he had a small role in Stanley Kubrick's literary adaptation, Barry Lyndon . In 2001 he played the role of Marquis d'Apcher in the horror film The Pact of Wolves .
In the 1970s Meyer also increasingly worked for television. He played a continuous series role in the British television series Colditz . In 1978 he appeared in the mini-series Holocaust - The History of the Weiss Family ; in it he played the SS functionary Ernst Kaltenbrunner . In the television thriller The Girlfriend from Childhood (1981) from the series Kommissar Moulin , he played the assassin, who in the end Yves Rénier and heroine Claude Jade put down the trade.
In one of his last roles he portrayed the German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer in the television film We are so hated .
Meyer died in early April 2020 at the age of 94.
