Nicolaus Mattsen

Nicolaus Chr. Mattsen (born March 14, 1847 in Steinfeld ; † November 27, 1924 Steinfeld) was a farmer and member of the German Reichstag . Together with his wife, the local poet Henni Mattsen, he was mainly involved in the region and for several years was the "most popular man in the Schleswig district".

Life

Mattsen attended the elementary school in Steinfeld from 1853 to 1861 and then the cathedral school in Schleswig until 1863. He came from a farming family and had been an independent farmer in Steinfeld since 1872. In 1867/68 he served in Hussar Regiment No. 16 and took part in the war against France in 1870/71 .

From 1903 to 1907 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of the Province of Schleswig-Holstein 3 Schleswig , Eckernförde and the National Liberal Party . Between 1916 and 1918 he was also a member of the Prussian House of Representatives . He was in charge of the Ulsnis district from 1907 to 1921.
