The Protestant Nicolauskirche is in the Leina district of the Georgenthal community in the Gotha district in Thuringia .

history

The first church in Leina was started in the 12th century with the construction of a late Gothic choir . Later, around 1600, further modifications were made. Around 1739 there was a new building on Gothic foundation walls. The church got its present appearance.

The village church is a three-axis hall church with a half- hipped roof and a three-sided choir closure. There is a covered gallery staircase on the west side . The church is equipped with a large bronze, a medium steel and a small steel bell . The organ is a work by Johann Heinrich Rupert from 1740 with 18 stops on two manuals and a pedal . It was restored in 2004 by Hey Orgelbau .

The parishes of Sundhausen , Boilstädt , Leina and Gospiteroda joined forces on January 1, 2014 to form the Evangelical Lutheran Boxberg Parish of Sundhausen. It belongs to the Gotha parish of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .
