Nicolina Maria Christina Sloot (born January 13, 1853 in Semarang on the island of Java , Dutch East Indies ; died 1927 in Noordwijk aan Zee ) was a Dutch writer who is mostly known by the pseudonym Melati van Java .

Life

Maria Sloot was born on January 13, 1853 in Semarang on the island of Java. She later lived in Amsterdam . Under the pseudonyms Mathilde , Melati van Java and Max van Ravestein , she is the author of numerous novels , some of which have also been translated into German ( Melati von Java, selected novels and short stories ).

She is also author of "historical-romantic" Sketches from the history of Java ( "historic romantic schets uit de geschiedenis van Java") as Soerapati (about the guerrilla leader) and Van slaaf dead project (also about against the Dutch East India Company fighting Heroes Untung Surapati (1660–1706)), who deals with the subjugation of the Mataram Empire .

Historical and poetic travel memories of Scotland appeared under the title Het land van Walter Scott (1887). Collected, her novels appeared as romantic works in twelve volumes ( Schiedam 1900–1902).

She died in Noordwijk aan Zee in 1927.
