Iris Fischlmayr

Iris Christiane Fischlmayr (born September 6, 1974 - June 7, 2017 ) was an Austrian economist and university professor . She was head of the institute and associated professor for international management at the Johannes Kepler University Linz .

Life

Iris Fischlmayr studied from 1993 Business Studies at the Johannes Kepler University and the University of Friborg (Switzerland) , the study she graduated in 1997 with a thesis on strategic success factor communication policy for small and medium companies in the glass and porcelain industry with special consideration of the country comparison Austria - Switzerland as Magistra. She then worked at the University of Linz as an assistant at the Institute for International Management under Professor Hakanson, and in 2001 she completed her doctorate with a dissertation entitled In search of the best suited expatriate: an empirical study on the applicability of literature at the University of Linz. From 2001 to 2005 she was an assistant at the Institute for Organization under Gerhard Reber , from 2005 she was an assistant professor at the Institute for International Management under Professor Matzler. In 2009 , she completed her habilitation with the thesis Forms of collaboration in international management: from expatriation to virtual collaboration . In 2014 she took on a visiting professorship in the Department of Management and Marketing at the University of Melbourne .

In her academic work she dealt with international assignments ( expatriates ), multicultural virtual teams , role models in professional life and the compatibility of work and family. Together with the Finnish Turku School of Economics , she developed a training program for the simulation of a production plant from 2005 onwards.

For her scientific work Differences Between Tight and Loose Cultures: A 33-Nation Study , published in the journal Science , she was awarded the Gordon Allport Intergroup Relations Prize in 2012 together with Michele J. Gelfand (University of Maryland) and Erna Szabo . At the beginning of 2017 she received together with Katharina Maria Puchmüller for the work Married, mom and manager - how can this be combined with an international career? the Karl Leitl Prize.

Iris Fischlmayr was married to Michael Tumpel ; she died in June 2017 at the age of 42 as a result of a cerebral haemorrhage .

In 2019 the Iris Fischlmayr Prize and the Iris Fischlmayr Scholarship will be awarded at the University of Linz.
