Karl Leitl

Karl Leitl (born January 28, 1924 in Eferding ; † January 24, 1982 in Linz ) was an Upper Austrian brick industrialist.

Life

Leitl's father Carl was an authorized signatory and married to Anna, geb. Obermayr, from 1931 shareholder of the brothers J. & L. Obermayr brickworks and pottery production in Eferding. Karl jr. attended elementary school in Eferding, then secondary school in Linz and began studying architecture at the Technical University in Vienna , which he had to break off due to the war. In April 1946 Karl Leitl jr. Managing director authorized to represent the brothers J. & L. Obermayr brickworks and pottery production . He later became managing director of the family company Bauhütte Leitl-Werke Ges.mbH and began its reconstruction, at the same time he graduated in 1951 with a degree in engineering.

In addition to the manufacture of bricks, he also specialized in their further processing and manufactured pre-stressed prefabricated brick parts. The idea for this came to him during his honeymoon in Denmark, where he saw a pre-tensioned ceiling. His procedure earned him international recognition and the title of commercial counselor and professor. In the course of time, he developed complete residential building systems, prefabricated garages and tank systems from these prefabricated parts. In 1977 he handed over the management to his son Christoph .

Political commitment

Karl Leitl was Vice Mayor of Eferding. As 2nd chairman of Upper Austria, he led the Association of Independents (VdU).

Private

Karl Leitl was married to Ilse (* 1926, née Lutz) the daughter of the painter Anton Lutz . The marriage resulted in Christoph Leitl , Martin Leitl (* 1952), managing director of Leitl-Werke between 1990 and 2017, and Katharina Lehmayer (* 1963), president of the Linz Higher Regional Court .

Karl Leitl had the architect Hubert Taferner convert tower 18 of the tower fortifications in Linz into a residential building. In 1974 he bought the very dilapidated Litzlberg Castle on an island in the Attersee , renovated it and made it his summer residence.

Karl Leitl partnership award

Leitl is the founder of the Karl Leitl Partnership Prize , which is awarded by the University of Linz for ideas based on social partnership in the world of work.

Trivia

Karl-Leitl-Strasse in Puchenau near Linz is named after him. It is located directly at Puchenau Castle , which Leitl acquired in 1961.
