history

The oldest surviving mention of the village comes from the year 1306. It belonged to the office of Steinau of the rule and later county of Hanau , from 1458: County of Hanau-Münzenberg . In 1587 there were 17 riflemen and 32 pen-and-ink spears in the village, so that around 50 families lived here. Three mills were operated here. Niederdorf was destroyed in the Thirty Years War in 1634 and not rebuilt. In the course of modern times, the area on which the village once stood was built over because Steinau expanded spatially.
