Niedermeisa is an old suburb of Meissen . It is located immediately northwest of the old town , below the Albrechtsburg in the narrow valley of the Meisa river, which gives the city its name. The place extends along Meisastrasse.

history

The place name is related to the location in the lower area of the Meisa valley , shortly before it flows into the Elbe . A document mentions this brook as early as 1150 as "rivulus qui dicitur Misne". In 1392 a place was called "yn der Mysen". In the 15th century the village was called "Mittil Missen" or it was called a place "in the Middle Meissen". It was not until the 16th century that the name was "Nidermeißen" or "Nider Meißa". In 1791 the spelling "Nieder Meißa" is in use.

The rows of houses extended on a block corridor that was only about six hectares in size around 1900. The parish in the Meißner St. Afra parish was already administered as an official village by the Meissen Hereditary Authority in the middle of the 16th century , in 1856 it was subordinate to the Meißen court office. Then Niedermeisa came to the Meißen administration , from which the Meißen district emerged .

In 1791 Niedermeisa was designated as an official municipality, in 1834 it was already considered a suburb of Meißen. Despite its small size and its proximity to the city, the place formed an independent rural community based on the Saxon rural community code of 1838 . The Niedermeisa community seal showed an anchor surrounded by a crown. The community of Niedermeisa merged in 1921 with the other suburbs north and west of Meissen, Fischergasse , Hintermauer and Obermeisa, to form the community of Meisatal . Niedermeisa came to Meißen in 1928 as part of it.

With the new construction of the Schottenberg tunnel and the relocation of the federal highway 101 after its completion , Niedermeisa experienced a significant traffic calming like the entire Meisatal.
