geography

Around 1900 the place consisted of a farmstead and lay close to the edge of the forest under the Niederndorfer Graben , a gorge on the western flank of the Hohe Wart mountain . Today there is an extensive gravel pit at the same location. The geographic height of the place is 255  m above sea level. NN . The Niederndorfer Flur was in the Oberzella district , on the right side of the Werra .

history

The original location and size of the Niederndorf settlement, which was probably created at the same time as Heiligenroda , is unknown. After the first period of desertification, the settlement was probably carried out in 1409 by setting up a farm. The last farmer moved his homestead to Hauptstrasse before 1850. Niederndorf was a male loan estate and had eight residents. In 1932 there was a change of ownership and new farm buildings were built. The neighboring town of Oberzella with the associated courtyards belonged to the Vacha Justice Office. The church affiliation was different: originally belonging to the parish of the neighboring village of Heiligenroda, Oberzella and Niederndorf came to the Philippsthal parish in Churhessen after the church in Heiligenroda was destroyed .

The residents of the small settlement were forcibly resettled from 1961 onwards because of their location on the former inner-German border . In December 1974 and January 1975 the house with the two farm buildings was demolished. The group of gravel placed next to the homestead was constantly enlarged for building material of the border troops and gradually covered the entire settlement area.
