occupation

Nobody Cries Forever is a German love melodrama from 1984 with the South African-German pop singer Howard Carpendale in the lead role.

action

Not only the densely populated nations of North America and Europe as well as India and China have considerable environmental problems, but also the comparatively sparsely populated South Africa with its natural beauties, history would lead us to believe, has some concerns in this regard. For this reason, a wildlife conference is called in Johannesburg , in which the rancher and veterinarian Steve Crain also takes part. But soon he only has eyes for completely different things, namely for the shapely young Suzy, with whom the man with the smoothness in his voice falls head over heels in love after his first meeting with her in a bookstore. Through this liaison, however, Steve is introduced to the environmental problem very closely, because Suzy's father is a fisherman and a massive oil spill has ruined his livelihood. He can no longer repay a loan taken out from weird birds, which has terrible consequences.

When he couldn't earn any more money, his creditors forced his little daughter Suzy to go to the streets and work as a prostitute to get the money owed. So she promptly came across the sinister Madame Karen, a nasty puffmother with highly criminal energy, and her brutal henchman Nico. But Steve's love is now so strong that he finally frees his Suzy, who after her escape from the Luden is tracked down by her pimp, disfigured in the face and finally abandoned in the desert nowhere, from her misery with all his might. Before Steve and Suzy can plan a future together, the vet takes bloody revenge on the villain who has messed up the face of his loved one with ugly cuts. Soon all the tears are dry and Howie sings heartbreakingly blissfully: “Nobody cries forever”.

criticism

“Mendacious wannabe melodrama that flirts with its semi-silky milieu and whose dialogues betray cynical contempt for women. Intended as a star vehicle for the pop singer Howard Carpendale. "
