Night of the Demons (also Night of the Demons - The Halloween Hell Dance ) is an American horror film by director Kevin Tenney . It was released on October 14, 1988. The film was indexed on May 31, 1989 by the Federal Examination Office for Media Harmful to Young People and on February 19, 2014 it was removed from the list of media harmful to young people.

The outsider Angela has a Halloween party with her friend Suzanne in Hall House , the former funeral home building. Invited are Jay, who persuades his girlfriend Judy to come along, the friends Stooge, Helen and Rodger and the couple Max and Frannie. Judy's ex-boyfriend Sal bribes her little brother Billy to find out the location of the party and thus also comes to Hall House .

To pass the time, the youngsters hold a séance with which they accidentally awaken a demon in the basement of the house, who soon after takes over Suzanne. When Rodger and Helen, terrified by a series of strange incidents, are about to leave the party and the grounds, they discover that the gate they came through no longer exists and they are forced to stay.

While the youths are gradually possessed and killed by the demons, only Judy and Rodger manage to survive until dawn and finally cross the perimeter wall of the site, which marks the course of an underground river that the demons cannot cross. to bring to safety.

Sequels and remakes

In 1994, Brian Trenchard-Smith's film Night of the Demons 2 was the first sequel. Together with the third part, Demon Night from 1996, directed by Jim Kaufman , the films form a trilogy.

In 2009, Night of the Demons was remade in which Kevin Tenney was a producer. Directed by Adam Gierasch .

The German first release on VHS took place by Sony / GL Video in a version shortened by a few seconds with the subtitle "The Halloween Hell Dance".

The publisher X-rated Kult DVD released the film in 2001 in a special edition limited to 2222 copies, labeled as a “special Gore version”, unabridged on DVD. In addition, a defused version with the FSK 16 approval was brought onto the market. On April 30, 2003, the uncut version of the film was released again on DVD, this time on the Laser Paradise label .
