Nightmare ( Japaneseナ イ ト メ ア, Naitomea ) is a Japanese visual kei band.

biography

Nightmare was founded on January 1st, 2000 in Sendai ( Japan ). The founding members were Hitsugi and Sakito. Later Ruka, who was formerly with the band Luinspear , Yomi and Ni ~ ya joined the band.

In the beginning they had a very wild and unusual style of music with which they quickly found their first fans. After two years in which they released four singles and the mini-album Outlaw , their style had changed a lot. The breakthrough came with the new, more popular sound; they were signed by the major label Nippon Crown , which also has Gackt and the band Penicillin under contract. Their first album Ultimate Circus was released at the end of 2003. At this point in time they already had a very large fan base and a fan club that accompanied them everywhere.

In 2006 Nightmare contributed music for the anime version of the manga Death Note . The double single the World / Alumina reached number 5 on the Oricon singles chart and stayed in the top 30 for four weeks. The following singles also landed in the charts, and the concerts were sold out. On September 23, 2007 the band gave a concert in the Nippon Budokan Hall in front of 14,000 fans.

Nightmare's music is an exotic mix of rock , hardcore punk , melodic metal , with occasional screams, supported by visual kei outfits.

On January 1st, 2010 the band celebrated their 10th anniversary with a concert with laser shows in the Saitama SUPER ARENA in front of around 22,000 fans. On June 23, 2010, Nightmare released their single "a: FANTASIA". In 2011 Nightmare made a tour of Japan called "the Time rewind to ZERO". They also released the single "Vermilion". Her single "Sleeper" was released on September 7, 2011 in Japan. In 2012, two new singles "Mimic" and "Deus ex machina" followed. They also released a new live DVD showing the tour final of their tour "Nightmare Tour 2011-2012 Nightmarish reality", the third appearance at Nippon Budokan. In 2013 they released their album "SCUMS", which was released in Europe by the Gan-shin label even after a few months. As part of the " Japan Expo 2013" in Paris, Nightmare played for the first time in front of a European audience on July 6th and 7th. And on March 15, 2014 they played in Houston (Texas) at the Anime Matsuri, this was their first appearance in front of an American audience.

Nightmare have an alter ego band Sendai Kamotsu . Since their indies days, the band has sporadically released singles under this name, which are musically very different from the actual Nightmares style and, above all, should be fun. In addition to individual singles and albums, live DVDs of the colorful shows were also released.
